Maiolo Jokers His Way To The Top

Bradley Maiolo became the first driver to win an AHG Sprintcar Series main event after playing his "Joker" card at the Perth Motorplex last night.

The move payed off for the youngster who vaulted into the lead in the series pointscore standings.

After round #8 Bradley Maiolo holds a 98 point lead over rookie Jason Pryde, with Cale Sotiroff next ahead of Jamie Maiolo, Sheldon Brady, Callum Williamson, Cameron Gessner, Ryan Lancaster, Luke Dillon and Trent Pigdon.

The previous best finish with a "Joker" card was Luke Dillon's third spot back in round #2.

Spare a thought for Troy Beckingham, who was involved in a multi car melee on Pits Bend and struggled on with a badly damaged top wing, as he had also played his "Joker" card on the night.

Beckingham was tonking around on the low line looking to just finsh the event - and maximise his points - when he was ordered to the infield by the officals with a handful of laps to go.

The first six drivers in the current standings all finished the 25-lap event on Boxing Day.

Seventh placed Cameron Gessner, the defending AHG Sprintcar Series Champion, was looking to continue his consistent form, after coming out of position 5, but was sidelined early on when his car jumped out of gear.

Only two drivers in the Top 10 - Jamie Maiolo (fourth) and Cam Gessner (seventh) have not played their "Joker" cards as yet.

Obviously they are both looking good at the moment as they will score a minimum of 200 points (100 X 2 for a DNF) when they decide to do so.

Also likely to move up the rankings are three drivers just out the Top 10 at present - Jason Kendrick (eleventh), Kye Scroop (twelfth) and Lee Nash (thirteenth).

It is also fairly tight in the tussle for spots just behind Bradley Maiolo.

Only 28 points separate second placed Jason Pryde and Cameron Gessner in seventh position.

Another important round comes up tomorrow night (Saturday December 28) at the Quit Bunbury Speedway.

Then we have another two point scoring rounds at the annual Sprintcar Muster at the Kwinana venue on Friday January 2 and Saturday January 3.

Those races should shuffle the deck even more!
